Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The Economics of Financial Markets presents a concise overview of capital markets, suitable for advanced undergraduates and for beginning graduate students in financial economics. Following a brief overview of financial markets--their microstructure and the randomness of stock market prices--this textbook explores how the economics of uncertainty can be applied to financial decision-making. Emphasis is placed on the economic principles underlying all financial markets, focusing on markets for equities, bonds, futures and options contracts.

"The Economics of Financial Markets" is an excellent introduction to the field of finance for undergraduates. It guides the reader step by step through important issues in finance while saving difficult mathematical proofs in the appendix. The view presented in this book is quite balance. It even has a short chapter on empirical test of CAPM and APT which is usually not found in other books with similar titles. Althought the chapters on option markets and Black-Scholes is not as detail as other books on financial engineering, it is indeed a good thing because it gives the reader a bird eye's view without unnecessary details. After reading this book, the reader can go on to more advanced text like Merton without too much difficulties. The only drawback is that it doesn't have any excerise, but this is not a problem for me.
